August / September 2010 --"Millionaire Matchmaker" Patti Stanger broke off her engagement to Andy Friedman earlier this summer. Ms Stanger had come to the conclusion that she did want children, a view that Mr Friedman did not support. Hence, the bye-bye. Ms Stanger is well known in the USA as an old-school matchmaker of both homo- and heterosexual couples. Her enterprise was featured on cable television in the USA for several years.

So is it a surprise or no surprise that she did not return the engagement ring to Mr Friedman.

Isn't it the courteous tradition to return the ring if you break off the engagement? Not for the ambitious (and maybe a little greedy) Ms Stanger. Here is her explanation: "Technically speaking he who breaks up gives it back," she explained to the pop culture website Radar.
