There are so many great choices for a BEST SONG FOR FIRST DANCE that it's hard to choose.

Not all brides and grooms dance alike! So be careful not to think that just because this is your first dance at your wedding, that either you or your new spouse are going to suddenly become twinkle toes on the dance floor. So make sure you and your spouse are completely honest and choose a song that is sweet but that is within your dance ability.

Secondly, get a shortened version of the song of your choice. This is imporatant and often overlooked by couples who are anxious to perform the first dance perfectly. Most dance songs are recorded to last around 3 minutes -- that can be a little too long to maintain the attention of a reception full of guests excited to hit the dance floor themselves!

So hire a professional DJ to edit the song down to between 1:30 and 2:00 minutes. That length is long enough for the photographer and to thrill the crowd, but not long enough to bore them!

The idea might cause a little bit of controversy among the getting-married crowd, but once the wedding party has moved into the reception, the focus should be on making sure the invited guests have a wonderful time. The wedding reception is the chance for the bride and groom to thank their guests for coming. Shortening the First Dance down to a minute and a half is a great early indicator to all of the guests at the reception that they are welcome to join in and they are important to the bride and groom as well.
