My fiancé REALLY does not want to dance to a slow song as our First Dance. I say it's tradition and it HAS to be SLOW.

Tradition is just a guideline for couples to follow. Tradition is not a mandate and couples are free to add on to or adjust 'tradition' to suit their own needs and lifestyles.

If your man does not want to dance fast as a First Dance, then why start off the marriage making him miserable?

You can compromise on a budget. Choose two songs you both like: one fast and one slower. Hire a professional DJ to start off with the faster song, then transition it professionally to move into the slower tempo song. After your fiance has become comfortable dancing to the faster beat for a minute or two, you can finish off the First Dance your way, with a warm intimate embrace and a few steps to the slow song that you love. The crowd will love the transition and your husband will be so happy that you accommodated him!

Something that recent generations have shown is that 'tradition' is merely a guideline for events and ceremony. Tradition in western society is to be reviewed and considered but adherance to tradtion is not a mandate. This re-design of tradition has upset many members of previous generations and in some parts of the world where tradition itself is almost a religion. So for the question of "Does first song have to be slow?" . . . the answer is, "Traditionally, yes. But go ahead -- make your own tradition!"

Breaking Wedding News!

July 2010 -- Will it last through the summer? -- American pop music star Katy Perry and British comedian Russell Brand became engaged in late 2009, so that is not news. Ms Perry recently explained that she sent Russell Brand telepathic, subliminal messages in order to achieve her engagement to him. The 'California Gurls' singer now tells the world that she constantly communicated to Brand telepathically placing the idea of asking him to ask the marriage question in his mind.

"Every night we looked into each other's eyes and I was thinking, 'Please ask me, please ask me'," she announced. "So all the time we'd been sending each other subliminal messages!," said Perry. Ms Perry also explained a more intimate detail of the formerly elusive Mr Brand: Brand reciprocated to her thoughts with the same intensity. In short, unbeknownst to each other, they were

simultaneously sending the same message. "Then, when we finally talked about the idea of getting married, he admitted he was thinking the same – he'd been trying to tell me that I was the woman he wanted to marry by communicating it with his eyes," Ms Perry reported. Scientific studies to follow in 2011. File: Katy Perry, Russell Brand engaged
